Meet our Founding Chief Officer
When children with additional needs reach the age of 18, many of the services around them fall away leaving them alone and in some cases, totally isolated. This really struck a chord with me and I wanted to do something about it. So I set up Creating Adventures.
After months of creating and submitting the application to the Charity Commission, on 24th June 2016 I received the amazing news that we had become a registered charity.
In August 2018 we started our first adventure, ‘Music & Songwriting’ which was partly funded by the Big Lottery Fund . This project supported 38 adults to write and record their own songs using their own vocal ability and Garageband software on the iPad.
I can’t thank my husband, family and trustees enough for supporting me whilst I went through that time.
It was a stressful time after year one due to the changes we were facing and this left me without a wage. However my belief in what was vital and what was possible kept me focused. I can’t thank my husband, family and trustees enough for supporting me whilst I went through that time. With the right foundations, beliefs and determination I knew it was possible and with each adult we supported I knew that I was right to continue with the charity. Providing the opportunities for the individuals to shine and be happy.
Through Cheshire Connect, I met with Sam at UBC Offices who donated an office in Rutherford House, Birchwood in October 2018 as she believed in our vision. The office has been a huge asset, providing us with a Head Office along with their continued support. However our ambition is to have a centre of our own to run our activities and develop more opportunities for our members.
In January 2021 we have 5 regular activities running and 2 more planned for the near future plus the plan of achieving our own space with help from Warrington Borough Council.
We believe that with the right amount of support and encouragement to access new opportunities, increase confidence and develop social skills, everyone has the chance to lead a fulfilled life. Every day we reach more adults and open doors to new adventures.
